چکیده

The present paper begins by deriving an instantaneous formulation for the backwardlooking (reinforcement based learning) satisfaction balance model of Gray and Tallman (1984). This model is then used to generate interactional data from four simulated agents in a network interaction experiment. Because this initial model does not generate stable interaction structures in the network experiment, it is altered step by step in the direction of a forward-looking (agent with goals) model that has been shown to generate such stable interaction structures. The purpose of the modifications are to learn what aspects of the forward-looking model are needed to evolve a stable interaction structure, and to learn how these aspects may be incorporated into a model that remains essentially reinforcement based.

Assessing the Iranian Fiscal Sustainability in Past and Future through Tax Side of the Economy

This paper, I have focused on the tax side of the fiscal policy to  investigate the past and future behavior of fiscal sustainability in Iran. To do so, I have employed two different forward-looking and backward-looking approaches. First, the backward-looking approach is the fiscal policy rule proposed by Daving & Leeper (2011). Precisely, this rule determines that whether the fiscal policy is ...

The Empirical Relevance of Simple Forward- and Backward- looking Models: A View from a Dynamic General Equilibrium Model

Recent research have provided evidence that backward-looking models fit the data well while purely forward-looking models seem to be inconsistent with data. Consequently, many recent papers in the monetary policy rule literature have used “hybrid” models, which contain both backwardand forward-looking components. In this paper, I demonstrate that a dynamic general equilibriummodel with flexible...

Modeling Expectations with Noncausal Autoregressions

This paper is concerned with univariate noncausal autoregressive models and their potential usefulness in economic applications. We argue that noncausal autoregressive models are especially well suited for modeling expectations. Unlike conventional causal autoregressive models, they explicitly show how the considered economic variable is a¤ected by expectations and how expectations are formed. ...

Backwards Design or looking Sideways? Knowledge Translation in the Real World; Comment on “A Call for a Backward Design to Knowledge Translation”

El-Jardali and Fadllallah provide an excellent summary of the many dimensions of knowledge use, and the breath of issues and activities that must be considered if knowledge is to be put into practice. However, reliance on a continuum (rather than a cyclical, multidirectional, systems) model creates a number of limitations, particularly when promoting evidence-informed action in the areas of hea...

Inflation Dynamics in a Dutch Disease Economy

Abstract In this paper, the effect of foreign sector macro-variable on inflation dynamics and firms’ pricing behavior has been investigated in the context of a small open economy New Keynesian Phillips Curve. This curve is derived and estimated for a developing oil-exporting economy suffering from Dutch Disease. This version of NKPC is an extension of Leith and Malley’s (2007) small open econom...
